Pat’s blog

Well nearly the middle of April already. We had our first barbecue at the weekend in glorious sunshine. April is always the best month here in the UK. We have always had more barbecues in April than any other time of the year. It is also a busy time down at the allotment, or should be…To be honest I just have not had time to get down there, hopefully in the next couple of days I will get it knocked back into shape and get some potatoes in. The good news is that the Rhubarb is thriving, the garlic is doing very well, the strawberry plants in the greenhouse have flowers on, the plum, cherry, pear and apple blossom is glorious and the daffodils have been fantastic. In fact I have been cutting them for about 6 weeks for the house and we are just coming to the end of them. I love Rhubarb, trouble is you have to be v careful and eat it in moderation….it has been the source of a lot of debate on face book which I have just embraced. I felt as though I needed to find out about Facebook, can it be used as an evangelistic tool?   It is an excellent way of advertising our events at church and also the website. We had 19 hits on the website one Tuesday after I spent a lot of time on the Monday advertising the coming week at church.

Our meeting last Sunday was a bit different to the norm…..as Mike and Jayne had a long weekend away in Norwich. Worship was led by Nathe’, Mikes brother. ( we borrowed Nathe’ from Hull New Life for the night…only on the proviso that we promised to return him when we were finished). Sue took the talk and led us through the next part of the Sermon on the Mount, An eye for an eye. Apologies for not having the podcast up yet…..trouble is we are lost without Mike. I only hope we managed to record it correctly on our brand new recording device thingy….. I blame Mike, in his words ” He geeked himself into a corner”. We had a steep learning curve last week, finding out which bits plugged into which cable which plugged into something else……..it is a bit of a laugh really as I have one son who plugs cables into amps for a living and another son who is up in Newcastle on an internship…..plugging cables into amps for a year.  Where are they when you need them!!!

We have just taken delivery of 100 bibles which means as soon as I get my head around printing sticky labels, I can start giving them to each ship I pilot.

I piloted a ship last Friday and horror upon horrors they did not have any coffee on board, can you believe it, 5am in a dark wheelhouse and no coffee. We were offered Chinese green tea………a stick with leaves on ( a bit like a piece of old privet) in a glass of lukewarm water. The ship had just come from Columbia with a cargo of coal, I said Captain they grow coffee in Columbia surely you must have some somewhere. It was as if I had just landed from the planet Zog. I cannot believe pilots from other countries had not said anything. Perhaps it’s just me and everyone else is happy drinking lukewarm “privet” juice…

We went to Swanwick a couple of weeks ago on a groundlevel leaders conference for a couple of days. It is such a privilege to get immersed in worship and praise and teaching midweek. We had a truly awesome couple of days and its good to get to know other church leaders from around the country. I always feel a bit of a fraud as they all seem to be from huge inner city churches and we are from a tiny church in a quiet backwater of a village.

Ruth, my daughter was 17 last week, and is now learning to drive, and I will be taking her out in the car as well……I mention this very selfishly so that you can remember me in your prayers!!!

God said to Adam, “I am going to make you a helper, a companion. What would you like your companion to be like?” Adam replied, “Well I want someone that is humorous, witty, intelligent, compassionate, caring, loving, trusting, polite, generous and beautiful.”

God paused a moment after Adam’s wish list and told Adam that a companion like that ‘would cost him an arm and a leg.’ Adam seemed a little dejected and then brightly replied: “What can I get for a Rib?”

On that note I will wish you all a goodnight…………The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord turn His face towards you and grant you peace.
