Pat’s blog. Sunday 31st October 2010

Good afternoon all, I hope you have had a good week. I am now on leave for a week hurrah!!

Church was v good this morning, it was the eighth of the just 10 series by J John…….”You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God”…………………….how many times do we hear people using Jesus’s  and Gods name in vain every day, over and over again. We must make a stand folks, I tell people at work if they use Gods name and Jesus’s name inappropriately…..”excuse me do you mind, you are talking about a friend of mine”……it really does pull people up short and it’s a good way to get into a conversation about the Lord. My work colleagues tend not to do it now or apologise afterwards….it’s not me they should be apologising too!!

Is it me or are the shops getting fuller and fuller of halloween junk!! Some of the stuff you can buy is grotesque and enough to give kids nightmares. People just do not know what they are dabbling in. I have put up my “no trick or treat here” notice on the front door. Which I have done for many years. It was always very awkward at this time of year because a friend of my sons, birthday is today and they always had a halloween party every year as a birthday party and every year we said that he could not go…..and every year we explained why, not to my son, ( he understood) but to other people…..again it is a really good time to take a stand and explain to folks why you are taking a stand.  Leviticus ch 19 v 26 and Deuteronomy ch 18 v10, God tells His people not to get involved in fortune telling, sorcery, interpreting omens, or engage in witchcraft………It is simple God says don’t do it.

There are so many other nice things people could with their kids……………….have a nice party, why do we have to scare our innocent kids, why do we have to flirt with the occult to have a “good time”.

I parked a big shippy in the week, the ” Navion Europa”she was carrying 850,000 barrels of  crude oil from one of the North sea oil fields. The ship was too deep to transit the river, she had a 15.2m draft, so we park the ship at a big buoy in the mouth of the river, half way between ish, Spurn point and the Lincolnshire coastline. The ship is moored to a large chain which is attached to the buoy, 2 floating pipelines come from the buoy and are picked up and connected to the ship. The buoy is connected to the shore by a large pipeline on the bottom of the river which carries the crude oil to huge storage tanks on the coastline. It is always good fun parking these ships as they require stopping in exactly the right position and we like to have them fast at exactly high water Hull.

The ship is 265m long, 42.5m wide and has a 34136Hp engine, 9718Hp bow thrusters and 6473Hp stern thrusters, It is seriously good fun driving and parking a ship this big.

A day at the “office”.

This is what I get up to when I am at work……it gives a rough idea, but unfortunately the actual shots of the pilot boarding are in almost flat calm conditions and on small ships, imagine the boat alongside the ship and moving up and down 3 or 4 metres!!!!

I do a lot of praying and worshipping our heavenly Father when I am going out to large ships in conditions not dissimilar to the video footage………………..

Pats Blog Monday 25th October 2010

Hi all, well the week has flown by and we have had some very windy weather due to a high pressure system in the Atlantic giving us nasty Northerly winds in the North Sea and even nastier rides out in the pilot launch.

YEEEEE HAAAAA all the fun of the fair!!!!!

Saturday morning, I received my wake up call at just gone midnight to bring in an oil tanker from the Humber light float about 14 miles or so from the coast. We boarded the pilot launch at 0230 and we didn’t get on the ship until 0400. When we eventually got out there, the seas were actually breaking half way up the ladder as they swept down the length of the ship……….It took an age for the ship to provide a lee for us which was acceptable, during which time we were getting bounced about in the cab waiting for the opportunity to transfer from the bow of the launch onto the ladder……..  We eventually clambered on board to be met by a full crew of Russians, language was our next obstacle………………anyway I managed to park her at 0710, it then took the crew 2 hours to tie the ship up, 2 hours, a ship this size should take about 50 minutes if not less (the ship was relatively small as big ships go…53 000 tonnes, 186m long and 32.2m wide, which out of interest, is the maximum beam, (width) for the Panama Canal.

I then had the rest of Saturday and Sunday off, so that I could take our link meeting on Sunday evening. We had a great  meeting, the music was awesome (I am trying to persuade Mike to record a full length meeting for the podcast)…………There were about 20 or so of us and God was definitely in the house!!!  I had a great time delivering the talk, it is always a great privilege and an honour to bring God’s word to a group of people.

The problem is when we don’t have time for something to eat before the meeting is that you stuff yourself full of doughnuts, after the meeting, I suppose someone has got to do it though………………

The girls had a good meeting last Tuesday evening……a games night……..indoor bowls, table top skittles and bagatelle, their itinerary is definitely varied. They are all having a week off as it is school half term this week. I daren’t ask about the weekly weigh in particularly after a link doughnut night.

By the way if any of you out there in internet land would like to leave some comments I would really love to hear from you, and get to know you. It really is very easy to log in and a password is sent back to you immediately, so please give it a go………
